Our talented Small Forwards.

While Blazers fans are rightfully talking about the quality at our PG position, with 2013 unanimous rookie of the year Damian Lillard, 2009 Allstar Mo Williams, and the #10 pick in the draft CJ McCollum, I wanted to talk about the quality at our SF spot.

Favorite 10 Batum stat-lines from the 2012-13 season:

10) Dec 3, 2012 vs Bobcats: 17 pts, 13 reb, 7 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk.

Season high in rebounds.

9) Dec 29, 2012 vs Suns: 22 pts, 8 ast, 7 reb, 2 blk, 1 stl.

Just a regular ole Batum stat line.

8) Feb 2, 2013 vs Jazz: 12 pts, 10 reb, 9 ast, 1 blk.

Basically a triple-double.

7) Nov 10, 2012 vs Spurs: 33 pts, 7 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk.

Just doing his thing.

6) Nov 3, 2012 vs Rockets: 17 pts, 9 reb, 6 stl, 4 ast, 2 blk.

Any game you have 8 combined steals/blocks, it is a good night. Add an almost double-double to the picture. Dang.

5) Feb 27, 2013 vs Nuggets: 10 pts, 9 ast, 6 reb, 5 stl, 3 blk.

Any game you have 8 combined steals/blocks, it is a good night. Add an almost double-double to the picture. Dang. Deja vu?

4) Nov 16, 2012 vs Rockets: 35 pts, 6 reb, 5 blk, 4 ast, 1 stl.

Blowing up the scoreboard while also adding 5 blocks, with 6 reb and 4 ast.

3) Jan 26, 2013 vs Lakers: 20 pts, 12 ast, 10 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk.

Triple double. Ain't no thing.

2) Jan 21, 2013 vs Wizards: 12 pts, 11 ast, 10 reb, 3 stl, 2 blks.

Triple double. Ain't no thing.

I keep getting deja vu.

1) Dec 16, 2012 vs Hornets: 11 pts, 10 ast, 5 reb, 5 stl, 5 blks.

Since the 1985-86 season, there has only been 1 other 10-10-5-5-5 game: Jamal Tinsley in 2001.

In fact, there have only been 15 5x5 games since the 1985-86 season, with the last one occurred in 2006.

Hakeem – 6
AK47 – 3
Batum – 1
David Robinson – 1
Vlade Divac – 1
Marcus Camby – 1
Derrick Colman – 1
Jamal Tinsley – 1

In those 15 (5x5) games, these players combined to make just 5 made 3 pointers; Batum had 3 of the 5.

In this game, Batum became the only NBA player to have 5 blks, 5 stls, and 3 made 3pts in a game.

Now, looking at his full season statistics:

Players with 400 rebounds/350 assists(2012-13):

Lebron, Durant, Batum, Iguodala, Kobe, Pierce, Westbrook, and Evan Turner.

Players with 400 rebounds/350 assists/80 blocks(2012-13):

Durant and Batum.

Players with 400 rebounds/350 assists/150 made 3pts(2012-13):

Players with 400 rebounds/350 assists/50 blocks/50 steals(2012-13):

Lebron, Durant, Batum and Iguodala.

Players who averaged 14 ppg/5rpg/4.9apg:

Lebron, Kobe, Batum, and Westbrook.

(Kobe and Wesbrook had less than 25 blocks, while Batum had 83 blocks).

(Kobe and Westbrook had more than 270 turnovers, while Batum had 190 turnovers.)

Now, while we all know and love our 24 year old star Nic Batum, we might not be fully aware of the talent of his newly acquired backup, 27 year old Dorell Wright.

Wright won a Championship with the Miami Heat in 2006.

Wright has attempted 1169 3pt shots, making 435 of them in the past 3 seasons. That averages out to 145 made 3ptrs a season, at 37.2%.

During the 2010-11 season, Wright made a career high 194 3pt shots. By comparison, the Blazers franchise record was set by Lillard last year with 185 made 3pt shots.

For reference, here is the Blazers franchise records for made 3pts in a season:

Damian Lillard – 185(2013)
Damon Stoudamire – 181(2005)
Cliff Robinson – 178(1996)
Wes Matthews – 169(2013)
Nic Batum – 165(2013)
Rudy Fernandez – 159(2009)
Damon Stoudamire - 156(2004)
Wes Matthews – 154(2011)
Terry Porter – 143(1993)
Cliff Robinson – 142(1995)

During the 2010-11 season, Wright had 6 30 point games, including March 18, 2011, when he scored 30 points in the second half after having a scoreless first half.

The past 5 seasons, Wright has shot 37.4%, 36.0%, 37.6%, 38.9%, and 36.4% from 3pt range (clockwork).

Needless to say, I'm really excited about our small forwards.

Side notes: I wanted to share these stats (but they have nothing to do with anything).

* Damian Lillard has played 1,257 more minutes than Greg Oden(includes his playoff minutes).

Another way of looking at that is Lillard has played more than 26 complete games than Oden.

* 3 Blazers had (+/-) of worse than -110 last season(ie: Blazers were outscored by more than 110 points when they were on the court):

Leonard – 152

Barton – 207

Hickson - 266

* A comparison of the first 7 seasons of Shane Battier and Carmelo Anthony's careers, with respect to win shares:

Melo/Battier(win shares first 7 seasons)

Somebody remind me again why teams are fighting to sign Melo to a 5yr/$130M deal this coming off-season?

* This is basically our roster for the next two seasons, with

Earl Watson(free agent)

Will Barton(team option)

Mo Williams(player option)

not guaranteed to be on the roster 2014-15 (I see no chance we don't exercise year 3 of last year's rookies).

So, the 2014-15 roster will be basically this years roster, plus an additional mid-level exception(4yr/$22M) player added.

* I still can't get over the off-season Olshey just produced.

He essentially traded:

JJ Hickson for Robin Lopez

Eric Maynor for Mo Williams

Luke Babbitt for Dorell Wright

Nolan Smith for CJ McCollum

Jared Jeffries for Thomas Robinson

Sasha Pavlovic/Elliot Williams for Allen Crabbe

Ronnie Price for Earl Watson

for 5 second rounders and ~$1M.
