JJ Hickson knew what he could do.
He could dunk. He could rebound. He could dive for loose balls. He had the heart of a lion but was trapped inside the body of a ....smaller lion?
The crowd muttered with dissatisfaction as Marc Gasol took Hickson to work in the post, repeatedly. Marc Gasol had been abusing him all game.
Hickson had tried his hardest. He tried his best to stop the unstoppable force of Gasol, but Hickson isn't exactly what you would call an immovable object.
He was in a contract year, he knew people would think he was playing for a contract.
But, deep inside, he felt a stirring inside. The people of Portland, so passionate, so amazing, were unlike anything Hickson had ever heard before. Hickson would put his soul into the Rose Garden, and they would give back.
Matthews the steal! Up ahead to Hickson! Nobody will catch him! Hickson's gonna score!!!!
Irving the shot, missed, rebound Aldridge, up ahead to Lillard. Damian, now bounce to Hickson trailing the play trying to dunk and he did!!!! And he's fouled by Gee!! Oh, Alonzo Gee, Smile, you've been POSTERIZED!!!
Hickson smiled to himself, knowing he had been able to pump the crowd up to the max. Alonzo gee sat on the floor, with a sheepish grin on his face, knowing he had just been served up a platter of disrespect.
Hickson, we will always remember you for your relentless onslaught of dunks and energetic rebounds, some you chased so hard after that you ripped them from your teammates hands. I wish other Blazers had your heart.
I also wish you were 2 inches taller and were a good defender.
We would have been willing to triple what Denver just paid you.
Good luck in Denver, we will never forget you.
You will be a Blazer in our heart forever.
