Have we as sports fans gotten so lazy that the nicknames we give our sports heroes consist of some combination of the first two letters of their first and last names?
Blazer players had great nicknames like: "The Chief;" "The Enforcer;" "The Train;" "Special K;" "The Glide;" etc. Portland has touted itself on "being weird," so are we going to settle on the current trend of nicknaming our favorite players, "Da Li?" or "La Ma?" Has our connection to smart phones, computers, and big screen t.v.'s mad us so lazy that we can't give our sports heroes proper nicknames? Also, it doesn't count if they give themselves there own nicknames either.
I am excited about Robin Lopez coming to Portland. He's a long and rangy kid with a lot of potential; Blazer fans will love him! But calling him Ro Lo? After a tasty chocolate and caramel candy?
Given today that Olshey has filled the roster, come up with so nicknames for players who either do not have one, or have only initials for a nickname.
I think Robin Lopez should be nicknamed henceforth: Sideshow Rob after "The Simpsons" maniacal sociopath with the same hair as Lopez.
