Felt compelled to write something here. I think we should be stoked on the T-Rob trade. There I've said it.
Take yourself back, day before last year's draft, and imagine trading some Euros and a couple second rounders for the 5th pick. Selecting Robinson and then Lillard. I would have lost my mind! A year later everyone's enthusiasm is rather tempered. Why? He spent a couple months in a laughing stock franchise? He got traded for peanuts to clear space for the best free agent of the year? None of those things have me questioning his upside. He's very athletic, and unpolished. But we already knew that. I think he will make a great back up to LA. LA seems to drop off when he plays heavy minutes, by the stretch run he is exhausted. I've noticed it the last two years. I think we'll see a more efficient LA.
This hedges the team in case LA is traded, no or next summer. It's a legit lottery pick we got for nothing. At this point I'd bet we are a better team than last year, and free agency isn't over yet.
Welcome to Portland Thomas Robinson!
