Time to Dump Freeland

  • Use the stretch provision to get rid of Freeland. He doesn't offer you anything more than Leonard. Plus he makes the Blazers use another roster spot on a developing center who ironically won't get enough minutes to develop when he's behind Leonard in the pecking order.
  • Use the cap space to sign a legit back up center in Brandan Wright. Wright is a young vet who has put in back to back seasons of productive work as a rim protector and still has room for improvement. He's only 25 years old and is just starting to establish his game. Interestingly the Mavs are looking to sign Oden, so they may not be trying to sign Wright right now. Do it now Olshey when you have the chance! Plus we all know Meyers isn't ready to be the main back up center. He needs some more seasoning.
  • Use the mini mid level exception to sign Nate Robinson. CJ is great but he's not an NBA point guard. He's a shooting guard with good handles. Nate Rob is the guy you want backing up DL if you expect to make some noise in the playoffs. Just look at what Nate did last playoffs for the Bulls and in the playoffs for the Celts. Yeah he's a loud mouth but his game is a literal mini version of DL's. He also learned to play some defense in Chicago.
  • Now you are a legit two deep team at the wing/guard positions. Then you can play Claver as a stretch four who can drive around slower power forwards. That makes you a legit three deep at both PF and Center. Now that's a deep bench with scoring on the wings and options for either defense and or scoring big men reserves. Heck you may even have Leonard turn into dunking/finishing/shooting specialist if he's allowed to play to his strengths and let Brandan be the defensive center off the bench.
