In March, BleacherReport posted an article regarding the top 25 free agent matches and what their expected salaries are. Here was their piece on Kaman:
That's projecting 2 years at $15M. Let's say we get him for that. We have $8.8M in cap space right now, right? Let's say it's $7.2M in year 1 and $7.8M in year 2. That leaves us with $1.5M in cap space. That's not much space to use in an uneven trade and its not much to use in free agency to bring in additional players.
My point is this - if we sign Kaman, we're done for the offseason. We're onto signing our Matt Barnes' and Jermaine O'Neals. I don't like it at all. Kaman is on the wrong side of 31, injury prone, and a mere bandaid on a leaky Paul Allen yacht.
I'm not typically a dooms-dayer, but with the news of Asik being off the table (just posted to the rumors thread), Splitter working out the $36M with the Spurs, Pek being appropriately valued in MN, and McGee being projected as the incumbent starter in Denver - I'm feeling kinda bummed right now.
Again...not typically a dooms-dayer....but....things do not seem to be taking shape the way I would want. I knew we were going to have to thread the eye of the needle this offseason to make things happen - but it's just feeling less likely.
I know this post reads as somewhat of a "Dear Diary"....and I'm sorry for that - I'm sure I'm a complete disgrace to my mustache as I write this....but it is what it is. Anyone else feeling the hope leak?
