I'm of the belief that this is a ludicrous offer for a player of Ellis' caliber, but I know there are some on Blazersedge who would disagree.
Whatever you think of Ellis, I think this offer and his reaction is a humbling surprise that may indicate the reality of this year's free agent market. There's not a lot of top-end talent but there are a number of teams with cap space. Combine those two facts with a "weak" top end of the draft and we may be in for a bad ride.
The new CBA was supposed to temper the insanity of free agency, but after hearing about this offer to Ellis and reading a few other contract rumors, I'm thinking that we ought to bump up the contract numbers in Dave's recent "Choose Your Center" piece and maybe admit that players like Tyreke Evans will in fact get max offers.
What do y'all think, is the market going to limit the Blazers to one quality free agent and tie us into a bad contract or is the Ellis offer an aberration?
