Dave has well explained why this summer is so critical to the future of the Blazers. He's also made the case that, critical as this summer may be, it's going to be very difficult for Olshey to pull enough rabbits out of his hat to "move the needle" enough to put the Blazers in a position to contend any time soon. Not enough trade assets. Not enough salary cap space. Not enough difference makers in the draft. Free agents that are either not good enough or too good for the Blazers to afford.
At the same time, I wonder how much Olshey is thinking ahead to when LMA is a free agent and trying to do what he can to put the pieces in place around him to make the Blazers good enough to keep in in town? We'va all heard a lot about how much LMA hates to play at the 5 and how much the Blazers need interior defense and rebounding (true enough but also read that as code for "let's get someone so that LMA can play at the 4 and not wear himself out".
So, what do you think the end game is here?
