I would like to start off my fan post by saying how unrealistic and ridiculous this off-season is but it was fun to put together!!!
Based on Storytellers contracts we open the off-season at a little over 43 million against the cap which will be around last years figure of 58.
FIRST- I would go hard for Dwight Howard, pitch him the young championship caliber core and the amazing fans and atmosphere. Dwight will want to go to a small cit y to rehab his image and become the beloved star in a more relaxed city. Give Dwight 2 years for 30 million . That would eat up our entire cap and the second year is factoring in his 10% year to year raise. Tell him give the Blazers 2 years and if you aren't satisfied you can leave and if it works out you can have your massive max contract.
Second- Trade Lamarcus, 3 Second Rounders, and Freeland to Cleveland for both of their first and their 2014 first. Cleveland is rumored to want him and that would give them a nice young core. Portland would get around 13.5 million in cap space after factoring in the cap hold for the fourth pick.
Third- Josh Smith is friends with Dwight and has the dynamic ability to guard a true PF or a Stretch PF. Offer him same deal as Dwight about 2 years for 30 million.
Fourth- The Draft. Assuming the slots are the same I would say that Ben Mclemore falls to four and we run to the podium. Ten is a little more difficult as we could go any position. I think Zeller also falls to ten and we grab a great backup PF. At 18 we get Dennis Schroeder who is a good developmental prospect.
Then We Have
Plus a 2014 Cleveland First Rounder
I believe that team is a championship contender that fits together nicely
