While his drafting of Lillard made the best first impression on me, I was a little down on the guy when he threw that offer to Roy Hibbert and we came away with nothing. I thought it was just too obvious that Indy was going to match (not that I didn't cross my fingers and hope) and that our failed attempt at getting him caused us to miss out on the rest of Free Agency. I thought it was a mistake and questioned the wisdom of Mr. Olshey as we watched our razor-thin team get wadded-up all year.
Now, after much soul-searching, I must swallow my pride and admit that Neil was right to go after Roy. After watching him in the Knicks series and then the other night forcing the Heat to respect his game (and the way the Pacers laid down when they benched him at the end of the game) I realized that, despite how it turned-out, it was the right call to target him. Watching the way he makes the Pacers better stings when I think about what could have been but even with the benefit of hindsight, it was worth the try.
[Let's all have a collective sigh at how great this season might have been with Hibbert in the Red & Black... Sigh...]
Anyway, good try Neil. Best of luck this summer. I will not underestimate your judge of talent as you chase the Free Agents this time around.
