Tyreke has seemingly regressed each year he has been in the league, at least as far as raw stats go.
2009-10: 20.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 5.8 apg (PG)
2010-11: 17.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 5.6 apg (PG)
2011-12: 16.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.5 apg (SG)
2012-13: 15.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.5 apg (SF)
As you can see, as far as raw stats go, Evans appears to be declining in every single category. However, it is clear that Sacramento is criminally misusing him, starting him at the SF when the reason he was drafted so high was because the fact that he was a large PG. (fragment, run on)
Tyreke seems to be at his best when handling the ball, a role he would be welcomely handed to if he played for Portland. Plus, he definitely needs a change of scenery, I hear you can get Cancer by sitting in the kings locker room. If you look at Evans stats, his FG% was a career high this year, a superb 48%(!) He isn't a great shooter but he has gotten to a respectable %, at 35%, only 1% worse than Damian's.
Bringing Tyreke here would move Wes to the bench where he could be our 'supersub,' I.e. JJ Reddick (+ Defense). Tyreke is also a pretty solid defender but with his athleticism he could be elite on that end of the floor. His ballhandling skills would take loads of pressure off of Damian. We all saw how good Lillard was when playing with Maynor, now imagine Lillard playing with an even better playmaker who isn't a massive liability on defense and will attract double teams himself on occasion, (and isn't a massive liability on defense) did I mention that Tyreke wouldn't be a liability on defense?
IMO Tyreke is worth the max (13.6 million per year) and we could expect a stat line of 17 ppg, 5 rpg, and 5 apg in 32 minutes a game.
And since we need to solve the center issue, we should trade for Gortat. Pretty good value (7.7 M) for a guy his caliber. I think trading Freeland and the 10th pick would do it, however we would have to tweak around a few contracts to make it work, I.e. swapping Dudley for Wes (which I would hate doing, Wes is my favorite player).
This would give us a lineup of
Lillard/Maynor (signed for minimum contract)
Aldridge/Howell (drafted in the second round, the next Faried)
i think this team could contend for the conference title for two years, and after that when Gortats contract comes off the books next year as well as Dudleys, Leonard will be a more polished product and give us quite a lot cap space to work with. I think LaMarcus would be content to stay here as we keep changing the players around the core of Tyreke, Lillard, Aldridge, and maybe Batum as well.
what do you think? Is Tyreke worth the max? Could he possibly be had for less? Do you think Sacramento would be willing to let him go/not willing to match an offer?
