Let’s make one thing clear: I love me some Meyers Leonard [Thought process one] Meyers has so much potential that I pray we don’t give up on him for a Marcin Gortat. I get it, Marcin is proven and could really help next season’s roster, but I would not give up Meyers for the opportunity that Gortat, specifically, presents.
Now could I reconsider for a Noah or a Horford? Duh. Meyers has many natural abilities that make this 20 year old kid so valuable. First of all, very few 7-footers have the physique that Meyers has, especially white guys. His shooting touch both from the floor and the stripe put him among the best in the league, not only with centers. His ability to run the floor makes him crazy dangerous both offensively and defensively. He also brings a ferocity and energy that does not come naturally to most people. Now if the guy can learn to use his long arms and quick mobility to effect shots at the rim and help on defense, he will be incredible. I understand that "if" is a huge "if", but if it happens he will be an animal.
[Thought process two] I’m not crazy about the influences that are currently in the league for Meyers to watch and learn from. Don’t get me wrong, there are great centers out there, but no active Center possesses the unique skills that Meyers has. We frequently hear of guys going to work with Hakeem or Ewing during the offseason to put together a more well-rounded game. Meyers should not focus there either. Meyers should look at one guy every day for the rest of his career. That man is known to all as The Admiral.
Meyers looks like Robinson and has the ability to play like Robinson. Watch at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIkTMOwJsto and look for the many similarities. If Meyers can play D when he’s 24 even remotely close to the way Robinson did (The Admiral was a 24 yr old rookie), we will have something special. Now I’m not saying Meyers will be like Robinson or even belong in the same sentence, but if there is someone that should influence Meyers’ career, it’s The Admiral.
