The question, of course, is "Which likely first rounder and possible lottery pick most resembles Blazer's Edge legend AK1984?"
Twinsies. I can't even tell which is which.
Olynyk, who declared for the NBA Draft today, had a monster Junior season for Gonzaga, averaging 17.8 points and 7.3 rebounds, shooting 62.9% from the field and 77.6% from the line. For the advanced stats types, Olynyk led the free world with a 36.6 PER and put up impressive numbers like a .675 True Shooting % and a 127.1 Offensive Rating on sky high 30.7 Usage %.
Update: AK1984 has accumulated some impressive stats in his own right, with 159 career SBN posts (including 43 BE fanposts and 73 BE fanshots) and 43151 career comments (40805 on BE).
Are there reasonable concerns regarding Olynyk? Oh heck yes there are. Did he put those numbers up against the 97th best schedule in terms of opponent defense? You know it. Is there a chance he might be a total defensive sieve in the NBA? Absolutely! Is he a bit soft and a bit lacking in athleticism by NBA standards? Big time! Does this site compare him to Spencer Hawes and Fabricio Oberto? Spoiler alert: yes.
When it comes down to it, though, if you can't learn to love a goofy, long haired, Canadian, skilled but soft stretch big who resembles a 7 foot version of Blazer's Edge legend AK1984, I can only wonder if you are dead inside.
Make the right move, Olshey.
