My close encounter was with God.

It wasn't scary so much as baffling, because I didn't know what was going on for a couple of hours. I was seeing a vision of something, but it wasn't visible with my eyes; in fact, the only time I could see it was when I blinked. It was like a retinal burn. When I finally was able to piece-together what I was seeing, it looked a lot like this:

I was standing on a featureless plain, like a beach or mesa, looking into a late-afternoon sky that was clear except for an enormous cloud, and I knew without being able to see into it that God was in there. Yet the cloud, huge as it was, covered just a miniscule part of God, like the tip of his toe. My senses could not take in how vast the rest of God was that was beyond the cloud.

I didn't intend to make this JD heavy or religious. I was planning to share a Loch Ness sighting or something along that line, but I can't recall anything extraordinary that wasn't a meteor, a rocket 400 miles away, or an animal sniffing around my tent. My encounter with God is the best story I have.
