Welcome to another itchy-fingered, want-my-champion-team-now Fanpost. Let's get to it:
After a lot of tears and kind words, the Wolves and Blazers have resolved the Martell thing. It wasn't Olshey, after all - he's just having to clean up after the other guys, and so on. Anyways, it's fixed now, and we can move on.
With our newfound friendship, Minnesota's need for a good Shooting Guard, our need for a good Center, and Pekovic likely demanding more in FA than the Wolves could pay without crippling their growth, I propose that we trade Wesley Matthews and Meyers Leonard for an S&T'd (3 years, $30 mil) Nikola Pekovic.
Wes and Meyers combine to make about $9 million next season, so Pek's (roughly) $10 million would leave us in Free Agency with around $10 mil and a draft pick, or around $12 mil without. If we waive Jeffries and Pavlovic, this becomes $13m and $15m, respectively.
We'll pretend here that we waived J+P, and got the #12 pick in the draft. Let's package that with Joel Freeland (poor guy), and trade down for the #16 pick (or thereabouts) from the Hawks and extra cap space. Now we're at $16 million. Here's what our 2013/2014 Blazers could very realistically look like:
PG: Damian Lillard, Maynor
SG: Tyreke Evans, C.J. McCollum, Barton,
SF: Nicolas Batum, Clavor
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge, Hickson
C: Nikola Pekovic, (Hickson), Cole Aldrich (MLE)
...or something like that. If Iggy uses his ETO in Denver, let's blow it all to see him and Batum defending together. I don't think that will happen, though.
Thoughts? Adjustments? Snide remarks?
