Lakers Free Throw Conspiracy

I remember someone mentioning this in GDT a while ago and decided to look it up for myself and see if the Lakers actually were shooting more free throws than the other teams. After doing some research I found that the Lakers have attempted more free throws than any other team in the league.

So lets go back to the beginning of the season and take a look. Bear with me, this is going to be a long list, but in the end, I think It will prove my point.

LAL - 1891 FTAs

Opponent- 1354 FTAs

Difference - 537 FTAs!

13/69 Games the Lakers have less FTA than the opponent. If I did my math right, thats means so far, the Lakers have more FTAs in 81% of their games! The Lakers also hold the highest point differential for FTAs by +7.8! The nearest team is OKC with +5.4. They also have the 2nd highest FTM differential +4.6,OKC is #1 at +5.7!

So can you determine why the Lakers get to shoot so many more free throws than their opponents? I mean, if you ask me, something is fishy in LA. It makes no sense why the Lakers would have that many more FTAs than another team. Its seems ridiculous to me.

Free throws are the only way to change the outcome of a game. We all learned that from the Tim Donaghy scandal. Does it seem strange that the Lakers are now in the playoffs and during the stretch that got them in they outshot their opponent from the line (from Feb 20 to today)423 - 250! 173 more FTAs! Before Feb 20, the Lakers were 25-29 record, today, LAL is 36-33. Hmmm...they also won 11 out of 15 during that stretch getting them back into the playoffs! Wow, that is quite the turn around.I dont know if you will all agree with me on this, or with my findings. But the facts are laid out bare for you, the Lakers get way more free throws attempts than any other team. The real debate here is why are they getting so many attempts and is that changing the outcomes of their games?

Thanks for reading my post and hopefully it will garner a few comments. I would hate to go through all this without it starting up a good conversation below.

Thanks again,

CJB
