Jonathan Tjarks from realgm.com posted a column a few days back called "YOLO Trades That Make Sense". One proposed trade involved the Trailblazers sending Meyers, JJ, Nolan and a 1st rounder to Atlanta for Smith.
On the surface I like the move a lot. A starting five of LA, Smith, Batum, Wes and Lillard looks/sounds great and were probably a bench away from being elite. However, LA wouldn't be crazy about being a "center", even if it was like Bosh is a center in Miami. Smith could walk after the season, so we'd be gambling Meyers (even though the gamble is arguably low-risk). And even if Smith signs, it'll eat up some serious cap space and essentially remove our much anticipated offseason cap flexibility.
Having J Smoove would make our team faster and tougher. He plays like a center in that he doesn't shoot particularly well and prefers to work near the basket. LA would dig that and they would compliment one another very well. Our defense would improve greatly too.
This move is one that is semi-realistic and could really take our team to the next level. I like any move where we pick up better players. Last year's roster was an anomaly.
What say you guys?
