Patty cake, soft doughy men.
Watching Miami hit, as many layups as they can.
It's the NBA... where's the hard defense? Where did it go? Meyers Leonard had the only decent hack when D-Wade tried to dunk it in the 1st half.
Blazers came into the season playing good, clean, hard-nose aggressive NBA defense. The Blazers opponents were getting hammered when they went to the rack. That's good basketball. Now we've see this soft, squishy, "don't hurt me" defense by Portland. The same type of defense that got them in serious trouble last season, as we watched the rest of the league walk all over this team.
Bring the ruckus. Bring some hurt. Intimidation is needed inside right now. I'm not saying flagrant stuff. I'm saying good hard fouls. NOTHING EASY. Teams are getting waaaay to many easy shots in the paint on Portland. It's as if our guys are spending so much energy running out to find open spots behind the 3 point line, they are having short circuits on defensive rotations, and are too gassed to get in their and stop any kind of opponent's drives towards the hoop.
Points in the paint margin is getting worse. It's been acceptable only because the Blazers are able to squeak out a bunch of wins on miraculous outside shooting. Maybe the Blazers offensive game plan is to stick as many 3's in the eyeball of the other team. But now that teams are realizing Portland is giving up the lane on defense. Is this because the Blazers do not want to commit a foul? They do not want to see their precious PER's or scoring numbers drop due to foul trouble?
Team defense and personal stat lines are beginning to clash on this team. I hope it's not a bad sign, and let's hope the Blazers can start playing better interior defense. Otherwise we could see .500 or less Blazer basketball in the near future.
