Underappreciated and Aware

Wes Matthews is all too familiar with being underrated - undrafted back in 2009 he was picked up by the Utah Jazz and immediately had an impact. In fact, he showed so much promise that the Blazers inked him to a big 5yr/$32M deal that he is still playing through next season.

This offseason ESPN did their annual NBA Player Rank series and Matthews was again slighted as he was ranked #130 in the league overall -- sidenote Robin Lopez (yes our Robin Lopez) was ranked higher at #128. This Blazer team has high hopes and they can only hope that Matthews can keep the pace with his hot start to the season. By God, the man is shooting 52% from 3-point range -- 52%!!

I think he is just as important to lock up as anyone else on the team - these kind of glue guys are what make championship teams what they are. He plays both ends unselfishly and though Lillard and LA drive this Blazer Bus, Wes will be an intrical part in them making the playoffs and possibly winning a playoff series.
