How freakin cool would it be if we all set daily reminders to place a write-in vote for Wes. Of course he won't get voted into the game, but he will show up on the regularly released voting updates. Imagine how much that would mean to Wes and the rest of the team. Let's do it!
The write-in vote field is actually a drop down menu with all of the non-ballot NBA players listed alphabetically.
Come on! Do it! Wes is the heart of this team!
or just text "matthews" to 69622 (MYNBA). We confirmed this works even though he's not on the ballot (thanks to hohowan for pointing this out).
In case you missed it, Ben wrote this in the latest media row:
- Aldridge suggested on Twitter Saturday that Wesley Matthews should be a contestant in the Three-Point contest during All-Star Weekend. As of Monday night, Matthews ranked No. 2 in three-pointers made in the NBA and No. 11 in three-point percentage (rankings subject to change when Basketball-Reference updates). "If I'm selected I'll go and represent Portland," Matthews told Blazersedge. "If not, I'll go home, rest, recharge and make them pay after the All-Star break."
- I asked him whether he would launch a campaign for inclusion in the event. His response: "You can do it if you want to." That sounds like an open invitation to his fans. Let me know if you launch a video or a petition or something.
I think we should still do the write-in vote as our form of 'petition.' It's not specifically for the 3-point contest but it's similar in spirit. Also, it could possibly lead to more notoriety for Wes which could lead to a 3-point contest invite. And lets face it, at this point he probably does actually deserve consideration for the All Star Game itself.
Do any video-savvy supporters want to make a video? I'm sure Ben will post it to the front page of Bedge and possibly anywhere online his clout could get it. This could really be something!
UPDATE 11/28/13 (Thanksgiving):
I gave thanks for Wesley Matthews today by placing an All-Star game write-in vote.
