After last night's not-really-deserved,-but-we'll-take-it squeaker of a win against PHX, I thought of a very important moment in this young season. If I'm LMA in the locker room after the game, I pull Dame and Coach Stotts aside, and say I want to hold a team breakfast in the morning before we board the plane to Boston. Announce it to the team for players and coaches, but don't say it's mandatory. But do it in a way that makes everyone feel as though they need to be there.
Then I make sure Dame and I are on the same page, and both show up dressed to the nines. All business, totally professional. The message is simply this. We're 6-2 and about to embark on our first big road trip of the year. All 4 games are winnable, but playing EST can screw up their internal clocks (especially Toronto at 10a PST). We need EVERYONE to get serious and show up for each game. If we take all 4, and I must say, this is a great lineup for an east coast swing to try and get healthy on. None of these teams are that scary. The Nets should be the biggest threat, but they look old and out of sync. We must capitalize.
Keep the mood light, but always focused. Trust one another, and trust your shot. If this team can do that, and get to 10-2, then that is the exact kind of start that could catapult this team to higher expectations than what most had going into the season. Confidence will swell, and chemistry forged.
Get it down boys!
