The Portland Trail Blazers announced Tuesday that the "Moda Center" has landed an Arena Football League that will begin play in March 2014.

Here's the release.

Portland's landscape of professional sports teams will have a new member beginning in March 2014 as the Arena Football League (AFL) returns to the Rose City for the first time since 1999. The yet-to-be named franchise will be owned by Terry W. Emmert, CEO of Clackamas-based Emmert International, an engineered transport and structural relocation company specializing in ultra-heavy duty transit. Plans for the new team will be unveiled as part of a media briefing inside the Moda Center, future home arena for the franchise.

ABOUT THE AFL
Since its inception in 1987, the Arena Football League has showcased a fast-paced and exciting game to millions of fans in a myriad of markets across the country. CBS Sports Network will broadcast an AFL National Game of the Week on Saturday nights for the entire season. The AFL schedule then culminates with the ArenaBowl Championship game pitting the American Conference Champions versus the National Conference Champions for the James F. Foster Trophy.

The Portland Forest Dragons played in the AFL from 1997 to 1999.
