Today has been a tough day for me. News broke today that the sale of the Kings to the Seattle group has been agreed to and the Sonics will be back next year. This is great news, maybe not for most reading this blog, but for me. See, I grew up in Seattle and lived there until around 11 years ago when my wife and I moved. When we first moved here, I supported Seattle first, but Portland second, only rooting for a Portland loss when we played against them. Since the Sonics have moved, I have been a full on Blazers fan. I have gone to more Blazers games than I ever did Sonics games (though have never paid for one) and really have loved the team over the years. It didn't hurt that we had a Husky playing for us either.
Anyway, now the news that my Sonics will be back. It seems the easy route to go back to rooting for the Sonics, but I can't help but have the feeling that this isn't really my team. Do I root for Seattle first and then Portland or just Portland? I have no attachment to any of the players on the Kings, I am vested in them in no way, BUT, I am very vested in the Sonics. More than I have been vested in any other team. What do you all think I should do? I know most of you will want to say root for Portland, but put yourself in my shoes and pretend it was Portland that left after you had moved to Washington and became a Sonics fan.
