Since the Blazers most likely wont have a pick in this draft, that means they will have more cap room instead. That led me to think about what the Blazers could do this off season to get a big man and add to the bench. After looking at what cap flexibility the Blazers will have, and assuming they keep Hickson I came up with a few ideas BUT I am curious to hear what you think. Review this link for a list of all 2013 free agents and their upcoming status-

Im having trouble getting the link to work so you'll have to highlight and paste to a search page unless someone fixes this for me.
Pekovic is a young big that will be a restricted free agent this offseason. To get him, Portland would most likely have to give a max offer. After comparing him to the other available Big men does he seem worth a max offer? Before looking at the free agency options I thought no but afterwards I would have to say he is worth it. With that thought, would Minnesota be willing to match that offer? There are a couple other options. My first thought for off season transactions looks like this-
Pekovic (max contract);
Budinger (Mid level exception);
re-sign Hickson using bird rights.
That would give Portland a starting big man, a solid back up big and some scoring off the bench. Plus they are all young. If Portland cant get Pekovic then maybe Kaman even though he is a bit older. Instead of Budinger Portland might be able to get Corey Brewer for a little bit more.
I am interested in hearing reasons why this is AND isnt a good idea. And if it isnt a good idea then please provide an alternative suggestions that could get us a starting big as well as improvement for the bench.
