OK, I'm actually not certain what's up with Ben regarding Hickson. But clearly SOMETHING is going on beyond legitimate dissatisfaction with J.J.'s performance on the court (e.g., his weak post defense or penchant to put up bad shots after snagging offensive boards). Just go back and read the post-game Media Reports for every practically every Blazer game this season. Whether Hickson had a bad game (like vs the Heat last night) or looked like the second coming of Moses Malone, it's the same: Ben gets off a juicy dig at J.J.
Ever since the Blazers got muscled out of the playoffs by the Houston Rockets (if not before), most of us Blazer fans have been praying that EVENTUALLY the team would sign a power forward who really gets after it on the boards. Yet season after season, the team has inexplicably passed on great rebounders in the draft & free agency in favor of beanpoles and no-playing point guards (Lillard, thank god, aside). Finally, in J.J. Hickson, the team has lucked into a big, strong, relentless rebounder who has some scoring ability to boot, yet Ben clearly hates his guts. What's going on?
Again, I'm not certain, but I have some theories. Perhaps you do as well. (Comment as you please, but another long statistical debate about J.J. Hickson's game would be pretty redundant at this point. I have something more lighthearted in mind.)
