A good number of teams still prescribe to the "draft and stash" method of harvesting international talent in order to create their own version of free agency with players no other team in the NBA can play except the team that drafted them, where teams only competition is the European clubs who may be able to offer a little more money and playing time, something increasily doubtfull in a European declining economy. And those franchises can’t offer the chance at glory in the NBA. By playing this game, these teams also prevent themselves from overpaying, which is more important than ever, considering the new NBA tax code. They also can afford to develop a young player overseas, while young American players have to be given a contract as soon as drafted. Considering the Blazers´s limited options in bringing in players every year due to draft position, salary cap constraints and free agency appeal, we should creat a market to bring in new players which addresses many of the limitations we face. Here is a list in al phabetical order of the 2013 international NBA players who were drafted lower than 20th in the draft or undrafted, so we can take a look at how this strategy has been working so far. Omer Asik, 36th, by the Blazers in 2008 Gustavo Ayon, und Leandro Barbosa, 28th Nicolas Batum, 25th Rodrigue Beaubois, 25th Jose Calderon, und Omri Casspi, 23th Victor Claver, 22th Nando de Colo, 53th Carlos Delfino, 25th Boris Diaw, 21th Goran Dragic, 45th Evan Fournier, 26th Marc Gasol, 48th Emanuel Ginóbili, 57th Marcin Gortat, 57th Hamed Haddadi, undrafted Serge Ibaka, 24th Ersan Ilyasova, 36th Jonas Jerebko, 39th Andréi Kirilenko, 24th Viacheslav Kravtsov, und Ian Mahinmi, 28th Timofey Mozgov, und Zaza Pachulia, 42th Tony Parker, 28th Nikola Pekovic, 31th Johan Petro, 25th Pablo Prigioni, und Luis Scola, 56th Alexey Shved, und Tiago Splitter, 28th Mirza Teletović, und Anderson Varejao, 30th Beno Udrih, 28th Joel Freeland 30th Here is the link to the Portland Trail Blazers Future Draft Pick Status Now my questions are: What do you think about the "draft and stash" strategy? Would you like the BLazers to draft and stash international players? Have you targeted any international player/s you want the Blazers to draft, especially in the second round?
