Let me begin by saying that I am excited for the Trailblazers. I think we got a few great players in this draft, and could not be writing this post in a more optimistic state of mind.
That said, we have some time to kill. Here, we will compose teams that consist purely out of great players throughout history who were drafted after some not-so-great (or less great) Blazers picks. I will hold mine to those players that were within five draft picks of our own. Make your own and discuss! Enjoy!
PG: Chris Paul and Deron Williams both could have been had with the number 3 pick that we traded down into Martell Webster and Linas Kleiza. If we're not counting that, so we can keep Andrew Bynum and/or David Lee below, I'm saying Sam Cassell (picked 3 after James Robinson, 1993)
SG: Michael Jordan (1 after Sam Bowie, 1984)
SF: Kevin Durant (1 after Greg Oden, 2007)
PF: This should be David Lee (3 after Linas Kleiza, 2005), but I was so sure that we would take Kenneth Faried, who is turning into a fantastic PF. I choose him (1 after Nolan Smith, 2011). Also noteworthy is Dennis Rodman, who was picked 3 after Arvidas Sabonis in 1986. I love Sabas as much as the next guy, but it makes you think...
C: Tie between Andrew Bynum (4 after Martell Webster, 2005) and Roy Hibbert (4 after Brandon Rush, 2008). Would be Bynum, hands down, if not for the injury factor.
