Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reports Portland Trail Blazers guard Elliot Williams' explanation of his season-ending Achilles injury during a voluntary team workout earlier this month.
Williams says the way in which he tore his [Achilles], was just one of those "fluky plays." He goes on to describe how it happened.
"I had just converted an alley-oop and then started to back-pedal on defense. When I was on defense, Luke (Babbitt) was dribbling and he made a move and I went for the steal and my knee just gave out," Williams told CSNNW.com.
"It's a tough situation. I'm not going to sit here and say that it's not hard. After putting so much work in to get where I wanted to be and for this to happen, is just frustrating. But, my spirits have gotten better. I'm still young. It's just one more obstacle in my way."
Williams underwent surgery on Sept. 14.
Williams, 23, holds career averages of 3.7 points and .8 rebounds in 6.2 minutes per game. He penciled in behind starting two guard Wesley Matthews on the team's depth chart. Blazers rookie guard Will Barton and sophomore guard Nolan Smith are in line for Williams' minutes.
Williams, a 2010 first-round pick out of Memphis (via Duke), is still on his rookie scale contract, which will pay him $1.4 million in 2012-13, according to StorytellersContracts.com. The Blazers hold a $2.3 million team option for 2013-14.
