Victor Claver compareable's analysis

Victor Claver

Victor Claver has no physical attribute data beyond height and weight. I did use that, but only to generally filter out on the extreme’s physically.

I did 2 comp studies. One study looked at European players who played in the NBA, and compared Victor’s European league stats to European league stats of other Euro who played in the NBA. I also comped Victor to NCAA players, but I only comped a single season for US NCAA players, and players who played in the NBA. From all of that I projected his stats based upon the NBA stats of his Euro comps, and I also projected NBA stats based upon the performance of his NCAA comps.

Euro Comps

These are the European League players whose European stats were the best comparison to Victor Claver’s Euro stats for the last 4 seasons, filtered by Europeans who played in the NBA. These players played in at least one of the following leagues; Euro League, Euro Cup, Spanish, Italian, French, Adriatic, Greek. When I am looking at best comps, instead of just looking at a single season, I looked at every available season these players played in any of the above leagues. So in the case of Jiri Welsch this is 6 Euro seasons, compared to 4 Euro seasons for Victor, so I feel pretty good about these comps. I did not do any physical similarity filtering, because I only had height and weight data on Victor

NCAA COMPS

I also compared Victor’s same 4 seasons of European stats and found the best NCAA player comps. I don’t have any physical data on Victor beyond height and weight, so that was the extent of my physical attribute filtering. These NCAA comps are for a single season only. Here are the 6 best comps of NCAA players who also played a minimum of two seasons in the NBA. Kyle Singler was also an excellent comp, both Euro and NCAA, but he doesn’t have any NBA stats so he isn’t included.

Obviously I have more confidence in comparing him to the Euro players. They played in the same leagues, and I considered multiple seasons of Euro league stats, to find comps. Without question I believe the two best comps for Victor are Jiri Welsch and Bostjan Nachbar, but I also believe Jumaine Jones and Shawne Williams are good comps as well.

Here is just a simple composite of both NCAA and Euro league projections. I feel like this composite is probably a fair representation, though I believe he could a little bit better based upon his Euro comps.

From these statistics Victor is going to struggle defensively in the NBA; he is a below average shooter, but an adequate 3 point shooter. He would be described as a below average rebounder, and passer, prone to foul trouble.

My simple conclusion is that Victor is at best a fringe NBA player, he would be a minor rotation player on a below average NBA team, and on a good NBA team he would be strictly an end of the bench player, no way would he be a regular rotation player on a good team. You could describe Victor as similar to a mid-to-late second round pick. If he is closer to his Euro comps then I would describe him as a early to mid second round player.
