As this has been the most anticlimatic move since we knew the Pacers were going to match on Hibbert, let's get on with rounding out this coaching staff to maximize player development. It sounds as though Caleb is still in the mix, and that will be good for the youngins. I think Caleb is the second coming of Bill Bayno, a gym rat who tirelessly sweats with the players, running them through drills.
Here are some suggestions from around the league based on coaches who appear to have some form of availability.
Mike Malone- This guy appears to not be ready yet, as he didn't make the final cut for us, CHA, or ORL. However, he's widely regarded as a top defensive asst. He was really interested in our job, so maybe he can find a way onto Stott's Staff. Potential future replacement if Stotts fails.
Patrick Ewing- I have to believe he's the most qualified Big Man coach on the open market. He's been on a successful squad working with D Howard, so I would love to see him with our bigs. I'd be interested to see if there are other former Bigs out there who make sense, but Ewing seems like a no brainer.
Scottie Pippen- This is less about a recommendation for an assistant, and more as a consultant. I would want to him to work solely with Batum (maybe Eliot and Barton too). Pippen has expressed interest in getting into coaching, and this assignment would be a great intro for him. Nic has the talent to be a premier SF, and Pippen is arguably a Top 3 of all time.
Steve Clifford- Career assistant and key member of the Van Gundy family coaching tree. Maybe the Van Gundy's aren't ready to jump back in on the sidelines, so why not poach guys from their staffs. I respect both of those short fatties. Great hoops minds who endorse this guy. Plus you need to have guys on your staff who are career assts. They know their place and what they are good at.
Is there anyone on Dallas that Stott's would try to bring with him?
Who were his assistants during both of his HC gigs?
What other suggestions are out there in who you'd like to see join TS on the bench?
