Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach Kaleb Canales was back home in Texas this week running his annual Assist 13 basketball camp. Pro8News.com has this feature on the camp in Laredo. While in Texas, Canales did a radio interview with KLNT 1490 AM, in which he reacts to the Blazers hiring Terry Stotts as head coach and lays out his plans for hte summer. Here are a few quotes, as transcribed by Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com. ----------------------------- So after our Assist 13 basketball Camps here this week, I'm headed over to see LaMarcus (Aldridge) and spend some time with Damian (Lillard) and the rest of our guys, Wesley (Matthews) so it's an excited time for us. What was it like when you found out you didn't get the head job? "Again, my focus has always been on the organization. And it was during that week in Las Vegas it was a basketball camp (Tim Grgurich's camp) that I've gotten a chance and very fortunate to work over the past couple of years. I think this was my sixth season working there. It's about 60 NBA players and about 30 NBA coaches. So, my focus was just on my players there and taking it in stride and finding a way for our guys to get better during the week. ----------------------------- Canales will remain on Portland's coaching staff. Stotts said at a press conference last week that he had begun reaching out to possible assistant coaching candidates but that there is no firm timeline on that hiring process. ed: text edited, bumped to front page
