Wages of Wins just did there value per win chart. It's really great. I was going to do something similar but they obviously have the bigger database to pull from.
Here's the link.
Let me sum it up. If the average win costs 1.47 million dollars as determined by the data in Larry Coon's CBA faq, then Batum would average around 11.47 million dollars a year. We're projecting him to have improvements to his game because of his age. That would make it a 45+ million dollar payday which is roughly what he's getting from Minnesota.
Roughly, the Wolves expect him to average 7-8 wins per year. Or a 1 win improvement over his current rating. Per dollar, it would be an equal value.
But if we get Barnes for a low contract, say 3 million, we only get 5 wins from him but we save a bunch of cash. The Wins/$ ratio is a lot better in comparisons.
Batum 1:1 ratio.
Barnes. (5 wins: 3 million) Almost 2:1 ratio
this has already adjusted Barnes downward due to his age.
Just saying, sometimes, it's about the $ to win ratio and not the amount of wins you can get from a player.
