Scenario established: Indy picks up Roy, Batum walks. FULL ON REBUILD.
I believe many have all established that if Indy grabs RHibb, Batum should be let go. Whether through sign-and-trade, or allowed to walk, he is too steep a price for the state of the franchise. Olshey has talked about talent acquisition, and I see only one (two?) viable scenarios to gain talent in the immediate future.
Trust me, I'm no cap expert or strategist, but I'm using the Denver Nuggets/NY Knicks as an example in the Carmelo Anthony trade. Denver scored big on meaningful talent and created a very deep bench in the process. We have squat for a bench. I tend to like the talent of San Antonio better than Dallas, and with Duncan reaching AARP status, Aldridge would be an awesome pickup to extend their window. Splitter, Blair, Kawhi anyone? Maybe even Houston? All close to home for LA and could be a "thanks" to him.
Mathews will probably get us some picks, maybe some small talent or decent backup (Ridnour type?). So really...we don't need to trade him. I already see him on par with a Ridnour type.
I'm terribly attached to LA and I greatly appreciate how much of a consummate pro he is in comparison to say...Kevin Love? Then again, I'm a hypocrite. I'll curse at the TV when Love steps on Scola's face or hits a 3 pointer at the end of the 1st quarter then proceeds to jump around like a baboon....but I laugh my (butt) off when the Joel shoves Rubio's face in his crotch on a dead ball. Un-called for, technically worse...hilarious!
I feel bad saying I'm down for a rebuild (cause I am) when it seems unfair to LA. He makes tons of money to play for us, but we could easily view it as a positive for him and us.
(Obviously if we land Roy and Batum...forget all of this)
WHAT SAY YOU!?!?! Any better teams with more talent? Who would you want back? How would they fit?
