The Columbian's Matt Calkins Is Leaving Blazers Beat

13
Matt Calkins of The Columbian writes on Twitter that he is leaving the Portland Trail Blazers beat. ------------------------------- I've accepted a job as a sports features writer for U-T San Diego. But I doubt I'll ever write for more passionate fans than I've had here. ------------------------------- Calkins joined The Columbian from the Riverside Press-Enterprise in September 2010, replacing Brian T. Smith. Smith joined the paper in August 2009, taking over for Brian Hendrickson, but left to cover the Utah Jazz for the Salt Lake Tribune. Some of Calkins' highlights: Nolan Smith lives with his sister | Luke Babbitt tries to bust out of "Chalupa Man" shell | Kaleb Canales is a "walking pull-string doll" | On Kurt Thomas' shooting prowess | Admitting suicidal thoughts | Brandon Roy needs Rose Garden return Of course, nothing will top his attempted mathematical study of Free Throw Guy's impact. -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
