Neil Olshey setting the Blazers back by 2-5 seasons. As we sit on 7/20/12 the Portland Trailblazers are a lottery team at best. This team MIGHT be in the running for the number 1 overall pick next year. As a fan I was so optimistic about this summer with all the diffrent scenarios OUR BLAZERS could go to improve. In a matter of 6 weeks Neil Olshey has ruined our team and more important our dreams of a good-great season.
Even though we were a lottery team this year our team was only a couple of pieces away to being a top 4 team in the WEST. Our 2012 team just had no chemistry what so ever and Nate lost them and by the trade deadline they were broken up which was very good move because it set up the Trailblazers nicely for the summer with the DRAFT and FREE AGENCY. Even with our team playing like they where we gave OKC and the Lakers all they could handle whether is was the road or at home.
Olshey had roughly 19 million (give or take) too go and get a legit star to play along with LA and put our Blazers back into one of the top teams in the NBA and in a matter of less than 6 weeks Neil Olshey screwed the entire season up and has really set this team back. If you are going to tie up 80% percent of your cap space and give a RESTRICTED FREE AGENT a MAX DEAL you can not miss and let that players team match the contract because by the time you are able to use that money all the quality FA are signed elsewhere. Don't get me wrong I would have loved for Hibbert to play for our Blazers but Olshey should have been smart enough to slip a poison pill into the contract very similar to what we did to Utah to get Matthews and how Houston did the Knicks. Teams that go over the cap have to spend $1.75 for every $1.00 a team goes over the cap and Indiana has some players coming up in the next couple of seasons that they want to keep like a David West who would probably get a max deal by himself plus given the fact the Pacers owner is cheap. Olshey made it too easy for the Pacers to match.
Olshey's plan B was to bring over Freeland and Claver who will probably both be coming off the bench behind Batum and Meyers Leonard. The team only has 1 true C in Leonard and we all know that LA does not like to bang down low with C and Oden just had another micro fracture surgery in February or March so we can all cancel thinking that he might play for us this season. Even if Oden is able to play this season I think he would want a fresh start somewhere else and who can blame the kid with all the injuries he had for us.
I love Paul Allen because he will spend anything to improve his club but I think he made a MAJOR mistake with signing Olshey to be GM. I know some of us Blazer fans will say that he "seems" to have hit a home run in the draft with Lillard and Leonard but you or I could have done what he did in taking the BPA who both happen to be aour biggest holes. I love how or rook's are playing so far but it's only summer league and 75% percent of those players will be in the D LEAGUE or playing in Russia somewhere next year.
I hope that I am wrong about Olshey but this guy has not impressed me at all with his basketball IQ so far!
How long do you think LA is going to want to stay in Portland before he starts acting like Dwight Howard. LaMarcus has went through one rebuild already and this guy is 28 and at the peak of his career and he has to be feeling just like us fans who thought the Blazers future was so bright at the end of the season!
