Assuming the Pacers do not match Hibbert and Batum's market value is worth more than PA is willing to pay (11-12 mill/yr), would it be possible to go after E. Gordon as well? That is, if the Blazers can renounce the rights to Batum (let him walk to NOLA w/Monty Williams) and then offer 2 near max contracts for these 2 RFAs.
If the Blazers can get both players then they'd have every spot filled, minus the SF, for the foreseeable future. If neither are attained, i.e. NOLA and IND both match, then the Blazers lose Batum and have serious cap flexibility heading into the future--full tank mode/draft lottery plan would be in effect until ~2015 while the youth develops.
I am a fan of all or nothing moves, where the Blazers could be in the draft lottery until LA is ~30. At this point, Portland could then decide if they can contend with him still and if not, then trade him for future assets with their new 'young core.'
Let me know what you all think? Is this scenario even be possible (can Batum's rights be rescinded now after the QO)?
