Target Jason Kidd?

I'm looking down this list of free agent PGs, and there aren't a ton of veteran PGs who would 1) be ok coming off the bench, and 2) have something valuable to teach our PGOTF Dame Lillard. But Jason Kidd fits the bill.

Most reports have Kidd going wherever Deron Williams goes, in order to back him up. So that satisfies criteria #1, partially. It's possible that he's still chasing championships and wants to compete, and it sounds like he's pretty close to Williams. So it's very likely Kidd goes where Williams ends up, either Dallas or Brooklyn. BUT, like with all FA offers, we can overpay a tad, and if we end up adding Roy Hibbert to the squad, it's very possible that we would be better positioned to go deep in the playoffs than the Nets. Could be a selling point for us. Or it's possible he just wants to end his career where he wants to end his career.

#2 is a no brainer, Jason Kidd is THE veteran I want showing our PGOTF the ropes. Plus, coming off the bench, you get a PG who can hit the 3, has more rebounds than almost all active C's in the league, and is a true PG who can still pass the ball with the best of them. OH and he's one of the best defensive gaurds in the history of the league (2nd all time in steals). He just can't put in the minutes he used to. From that perspective, he's a PERFECT fit. Plus he and Lillard share the bay area connection.

Questions for you guys:

A. How much $ will Jason Kidd command on the market?

A1. Can we afford that? If we signed Hibbert to the max deal (which, as of now, it looks very likely that the Pacers pass on him and go after Asik instead), does that leave us with any cap space to work with to sign a vet like Kidd?

A2. How does this affect Batum's resigning? I'm under the impression that as long as we have room after the Hibbert deal to sign Kidd, resigning Batum after that should be no problem in terms of cap space (as long as PA is willing to foot the bill). Is that correct?

B. Do you think he'd be open to coming to Portland?
