Smith: Blazers Take Damian Lillard, Perry Jones In Mock Draft

Aran Smith of NBADraft.net has the Portland Trail Blazers selecting Weber State guard Damian Lillard and Baylor forward Perry Jones in his 2012 NBA Mock Draft on HoopsHype.com. -------------------------------- N. 6 -- Damian Lillard -- While his point guard abilities are debatable, Lillard is a tremendous athlete with a wet jump shot. He's a late bloomer who has a work ethic that many high profile prospects are lacking. Portland is said to be high on Lillard and could shore up their PG position for years to come with Lillard. Right now a better scorer than distributor, but shows a good feel for the game and makes good decisions. No. 11 -- Perry Jones -- Jones is one of the draft's real wildcards. A team could decide his lack of production and improvement was more of a product of Baylor and he's worth a mid-lottery pick. But the concerns about his motor could cause him to slide right out of the lottery. He would be an upside pick after taking Lillard at 6. Jones appears to be the ultimate tease. On highlights alone, you would think he is a future perennial All-Star. From a talent standpoint he's got everything you would want from a prospect. He's got size, speed, athleticism, and the ability to shoot. But he always leaves you wanting more, never seeming able to play up to his abilities when it matters most. His sophomore statistics look eerily similar to his freshman numbers. Jones has jaw-dropping physical attributes, but seems to have a hard time flipping the switch from his nice guy off court persona. -------------------------------- -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
