I have been wondering for a long while - and today while studying Spanish I was reading a newspaper article claiming Victor Claver was renouncing his contract and looking to head west - I began to ask, is anyone available lower than 11 who is better than Claver can become? Is Freeland really going to help this team? Do these two make any difference in what the Blazers do tonight?
IMO - Olshey is playing coy because he knows he has great value in these two players and these can be used as trade matter or as necessary filler should he take a flyer on say Andre Drummond or another upside project.
So what are the possibilities if Olshey and the Blazer brass really think Claver is the real thing (a Tony Kukoc type)? Can we use Matthews as a trade piece and land another pick? If Freeland has better use as a trade piece could we package him and the two seconds to move up to get a lower first rounder this year - or a first for next year?
Second, how does gaining these two change our plans in free agency? We would be light on PG with only Nolan Smith on board - but we would have additional pieces in place for high level point to come in and make something happen right away.
I love the way Olshey is mysterious in his answers - I think we are all in for a wild ride tonight - I wonder is anyone we really have been in conjecture about is who we will draft?
If these two Eurobigs are really good - we could be already turning the corner, and our draft could end up being more about championship upside not polished mediocrity.
Stay tuned Blazer Nation!
