Draft Gambit - Trade Drawer 6/27/12

Reading all of the draft intrigue/rumors has given me a few ideas on how to maximize our talent in this years draft.

First, our assets:

This years draft picks (6, 11, 40, 41)

Jamal Crawford ($5 million)

Luke Babbitt ($1.7 million)

Nolan Smith ($1.3 million)

Kurt Thomas ($1.3 million)

Rights to Joel Freeland and Victor Claver

Future draft picks

Second, potential targets:

Pick #2 from Charlotte

Pick #4 from Cleveland

How to make them work:

Charlotte wants to unload Tyrus Thomas' contract, we need front court help. We offer Luke Babbitt a future first round pick, and the #41 from this years draft.

Cleveland is interested in Terrence Ross who is supposed to be off the board at #12 this year, conveniently we have the #11 pick, plus the rights to Freeland or Claver to offer

This leaves us with the following picks this year (and the players I would draft):

2 Thomas Robinson

4 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

6 Damian Lillard

40 Kyle O'Quinn

We would not resign Hickson in this scenario and would have the following depth chart

PG Lillard, Nolan, Free Agent

SG Wesley Matthews, Elliot Williams

SF Batum, MKG

PF Thomas Robinson, Tyrus Thomas, Kurt Thomas

C Aldridge, Pryzbilla, O'Quinn

Personally, I would move Batum to SG and have Wes come off the bench as our 6th man so that MKG could start and have the following lineup:

PG Damian Lillard

SG Nicolas Batum

SF MKG

PF Thomas Robinson

C LaMarcus Aldridge
