Booing Brandon?

I am usually the first person to claim that athletes don't owe the fans anything; especially when it comes to contracts and such. I don't complain that my barista doesn't sign autographs/give me her @twitter handle just because I indirectly per her salarywage $2.13 at a time.

Nor do I think Roy is a bad guy who 'deserves' to be booed. But if it happens... I won't feel bad for him at all. I think ultimately he both d***ed around the franchise a little bit when it took just 3 days from "I'm feeling better than ever" to "I am forced to retire" AND he left the fans hanging. For as much love as the fans showed Roy, I think he owed the fans/franchise a few more moments than his agent reading a press release and being noticed showing up for one quarter of a game that he was only there as a favor to his buddy on his birthday.

We all know Roy is a very personal guy with a lot of inner struggles. But a formal appearance at the Rose Garden for a game, a "Make it Better" appearance, a miniature parade/send-off for the fans, being present at your own press conference, etc; would have meant a TON to most of the fans here and my feeling is that he owed/we deserved a little bit more closure on the Roy era than we got. So while I'll definitely continue to root for Roy (and count down the days until he can re-sign with the Blazers), I'll give him one single lusty boo if his first formal appearance back at the RG is another teams uniform.
