According to this article, Brendan Haywood's contract has what one GM calls the "best spread provision in the NBA." Meaning if you waive him, you (i.e. Paul Allen) can spread the payments out until 2026. So, my question is would you take back his salary in a trade up for the Mavs 17th pick? Possibly do Joel Freeland and the 40th pick for #17 and Haywood. If you take Meyers Leonard at #11, he could back up Haywood until he was ready to take over. Then at the end of the year, you could waive Haywood.
