They are rumors of them talking to the Cavs about 4 and 24, there are rumors about the Bobcats for the number 2 pick. Why not sit where you are and let the draft come to you. Is Bradley Beal that much better than Dion Waiters or Austin Rivers...........in my opinion no. The Blazers are in perfect position to get the Center they need in Drummond at 6 who can play like a beast when he wants to and at 11 they can get Austin Rivers who is not a true PG coming out but neither was Westbrook. If Portland can leave this draft with those 2 players it would be a homerun in my opinion.
The Blazers biggest hole is at the point but the draft is weak at that position this year with only Damian Lillard going in the top 10. Two players so far have promises to be drafted in the lottery, one being Rivers and the other being Dion Waiters. Portland could be one of the 2 teams to give this promise but I don't recall them ever doing something like this before.
Paul Allen has never been shy about spending money before and with the Blazers having anywhere from 15-20 million in cap space this summer. The team has to address the PG position in FA by taking a shot at D Williams, Nash or even Kyle Lowery. I don't see Williams coming to Portland but him LA have a very good friendship plus who knows what it's going to take to match Batum's contract. The Blazers were foolish not to sign him when they had the upper hand. Sacramento has not been shy at all about wanting Batum. Will the Blazers have enough money once they sign Batum to make a legit run at Steve Nash, I sincerely hope so. The so called "experts" also seem to think that Portland also has a hole at SG with Matthews but I still like him. He had a bad year but so did the entire team minus LA. This season was so freaky with the players not having a camp and hardly ever getting time to practice. I would give Matthews one more year as a starter but still draft Waiters or Rivers. Both players have tremendous upside and who knows we might be able to steal Doc Rivers if Boston decides to rebuild around Rondo. Rivers would love to coach his son and with KG and Ray Allen both being FA........you never know. Don't forget that Paul Pierce was almost traded to the Nets for the same pick we got from New Jersey. They decided to go with the younger player in Wallace. It could happen.
This will be a crucial summer for the Blazers and if done correctly this team can challenge OKC. This team gave OKC all they could handle with this roster and if additions are made the Blazers could jump right back into the top 4 of the west.
