I was going around and reading a lot of fan posts recently about the Trail Blazer's Summer plans. Alot of them ranging from total rebuild (trading LMA, Batum, and Matthews) to simply reloading talent via free agency, and even some head-scratchers like doing everything it takes to go after Jeremy Lin, Deron Williams, and Roy Hibbert. That's just weird. Here's my take on what we should do, and ultimately some version of this I do realistically see happening this summer.
Resign Batum, Hickson, and Pryzbilla
Go after a pg in free agency, Steve Nash or Aaron Brooks works.
Sign Omer Asik. Asik is a restricted free agent and Chicago simply cannot match what we could offer with our remaining cap space.
Then use our picks to get Andre Drummond #4 and Damian Lillard #11 and possibly a G/F like Alex Young with our second round pick. Damian Lillard is very interesting as a PGOTF prospect to me because with shooters like Matthews Batum and Babbitt what we really lack is a consistent scoring/creating guard. Drummond has numerous flaws but is a freakish athlete and has tons of potential. If we're able to sign Asik we won't need Drummond to contribute right away.
PG: Free agent/Lillard/(either Flynn or Smith)
SG: Matthews/Williams/Young
SF: Batum/Babbitt/Young
PF: Aldridge/Hickson/Babbitt
C: Asik/Drummond/Pryzbilla
What do you guys think? I feel like that lineup is realistic, doable and would not only allow us to compete now but have prospects for the future.
