In a recent comment Dave said that we can "book" that we're going to get the third and the seventh pick in this draft. So, in the interest of discussion, I thought I would see what everyone would do if that scenario played out, and offer my take.
With the third pick I would take Andre Drummond, and with the seventh I would take Perry Jones III. Yes, I realize those are probably the two biggest bust potentials in the draft. But, I'm going to bank on their upside, and the fact that they both bring incredible length and athleticism to the team. And with proper player development have more super star potential than anyone in the draft outside of Davis.
Additionally, I would trade Matthews and Nolan to Atlanta for their first rounder and Marvin Williams. I'm not a fan of Williams' contract, but it is a year shorter than Matthews (and that is assuming he takes his player option), and he can provide some average to very good (at times) minutes off the bench. With the Atlanta pick I would take Marquis Teague, and plug him in at your backup PG.
In the second round I would take Jae Crowder and Kyle O'Quinn.
In free agency i would go hard after Dragic, as with the length on our team his defensive liabilities would be minimized, and his shooting would spread the floor for the athletes to do their thing. I would also re-sign Batum, Hickson, and Przybilla.
Batum slides to the two guard, and you play Perry at the three. The trade off is size and athleticism (something you cant teach), for shooting (which you can teach).
Potential lineup:
Dragic/Teague/FA (Pargo?)
Batum/E.Will/Crowder
P.Jones III/M.Williams/Babbitt
Aldridge/Hickson/Thomas
Drummond/Przybilla/O'Quinn
What would you do with the #3 and the #7? Trade them? Take different players?
