For those of you who have had conversations with me you already know that I am a huge fan of bringing Aaron Brooks to Portland. Those who haven't talked to me or read my stuff, well, now you know I am probably the biggest fan of this. If you know as much as I do about him then you already know he will be a great fit in Portland. Those of you who are on the fence or barely even know who I talking about then hopefully this will help you get on the Band Wagon for Sir Brooks.
Aaron Brooks is Mr. Excitement himself from the down year when was a junior at Oregon all the way to the CBA Finals this guy can do it all. He straight up decked a Puskie in the face, he helped knock B-Roy out of the Pac 10 tournament (Brandons Sr year.) and did not play against Cal. The reason he was shown very minimal minutes in all 3 of the 2006 Pac 10 tournament was because he did punch a Pusky in the face. ( WSU-15 min played, UW-10 min played, Cal-DNP Coaches Desicion) I feel if Brooks had played in this game we would have won, even if it was for 5-10 minutes, I think he would have had a basket or 2 that would have gave the Ducks a win and that game would have never gone to 2ot.
His senior year is where he spread his wings and flew, although he can't dunk, he sure can make rim-jection look fancy. I guess I could say he really broke out in a game at home against the #1 UCLA Bruins where he hit the game winning shot at the buzzer to lead his team to victory 68-66. (He had 25 pts, 3 ast, and 3 steals). With a record of 15-1 overall and a 3-1 conference record the game against the #8 Arizona Wildcats had began. Brooks lead the team in scoring once again with 21 points he threw in 6 assists which helped us pass the 8th ranked Wildcats 79-77. THen he lead the Ducks into WSU to face the #18 team in the nation, that was indestructable at home. He pushed us past the Cougars in an OT thriller with 31 pts and 8 rebounds. I remember listening to the game tying 3 pointer on the radio, I went bonkers after hearing the call. He lead the Ducks to a 29-8 record, a PAC 10 title and an Elite 8 appearance in which they lost to the Florida Gators who eventually won the tournament.
He as a player has it all he can score, he has excellent dribble penatration, and is faster the Westbrook. Yes, I am talking about the Thunders pg. Brooks was the fastest player in the Pac 10 when he was there. He has an incredible Basketball IQ, He has shown leadership on more then just the college level over in the CBA he took his team to the finals and was 5 points short of breaking his teams single game scoring record with 40. He lead the league in assist, and lead his team in assists in every game. The guy is a natural point guard and is a unknown star waiting to breakout. He flies under the radar because of where he was drafted by Houston. Houston at the time had Alston and drafted Brooks simply as a back up. Then 2 years after he was drafted Houston traded Alston to Orlando and gave Brooks the reigns to the starting position. Anybody remember how he brought Houston back against us in what seemed like a few seconds to hit three 3's and a duece in the playoffs. He lead Houston to tie the series with the Lakers, but eventually lost in 6.
He was traded to Phoenix at the end of that season in which he would take another back seat role to none other then Steve Nash. I don't blame the guy for signing a contract in China, he wanted to play and start, and when you have Nash you aren't going to make him sit to a guy that you don't really know about are you.
We miss Brandon Roy like no other, but Brooks is a one of a kind player, who is way more comfortable playing the point then Brandon was. His play is similar but it also differs because of the height. He is a 6' guard who knows what leadership is. LMA would be going wild on every team with the sweet dishes Brooks will hand out. He is ready and poised to actually lead a team and considering the Blazers need a point guard super bad, it is why Portland is the perfect place for him. These words that I am typing can't describe his actually play, it is electric, don't believe me, type Aaron Brooks up on youtube and you will see. The guy is going to be an All Star if not more.
