Free Throws

Why are they so hard for professionals to make? Why don't teams show more interest in improving? Why don't players take more pride and put more effort into what are essentially free points?

This isn't aimed at Portland, or any specific team, but how many times have you scanned the box score of a game decided by a couple of points, and noticed the losers missed a bunch of FT? Hell, teams created Hack-a-Shaq to benefit from his atrocious FT%.

Teams will hire a big-man coach, they'll sign elderly players to ride the pine and provide maturity/guidance for younger teams. Why not hire a guy to teach players how to successfully make an unguarded set shot?

I know there are more "important" aspects of the game teams need to focus on during practices, but seriously, it's a free throw. A point is a point, and it says FREE right in the name.

Sorry for the mini-rant, this really bugs me.
