I'm just curious to hear what you all think Ray's prospects are for next year. How much money do you think he can command as a free agent. Here are my thoughts, some of which might be crazy, so just push through: 1) I'd imagine that his stock is very low, and that he is unlikely to command a salary similar to what he is getting this year. I'd think he'll probably be looking at a backup spot somewhere. 2) I recognize that he has been horrible for most of the season, has had a bad attitude, and is fat. 3) Here is the crazy thought: do you think there is any chance that Portland (say, if he would take a 1-2 year deal worth 3-4 million each, or less) might bring him back if some of the other efforts for a better starting point guard fail? His stats this season aren't too far off his career averages, and I imagine that if he continues to play well the next couple weeks, they very well could be right around his averages. Many of the concerns have been his stupid mental mistakes (which have been plentiful), though he has had fewer of these as of late. I wonder if he might come out next season with something to prove and do significantly better. Despite his shortcomings, he still does have a lot of strengths as a PG, which might get us through until a better alternative comes around. Perhaps I'm just too much of an optimist. Thoughts?
