Feigen: Camby Plays Through Pain For Rockets Playoff Push

31
Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle writes that Houston Rockets center Marcus Camby, traded by the Portland Trail Blazers at the deadline, played through pain to help key a Friday night win over the Memphis Grizzlies. -------------------------- With his left wrist heavily wrapped because of torn ligaments, Camby started the game with Samuel Dalembert battling flu-like symptoms and finished it with consecutive offensive rebounds and put-back buckets that lifted the Rockets past the Grizzlies 98-89 on Friday at Toyota Center. ... "Every time the ball touches it, it hurts, every time it gets hit," Camby said with the wrap on his wrist even bulkier after the game. "But I can’t afford to sit down. This is our playoffs. The team needs me to be a leader out there. That’s what I try to do." Just two weeks after joining the Rockets following the trade deadline, and a day after his only practice with the team, Camby accomplished that much, sending a clear message. "Marcus is just a wily old pro that loves to compete, that loves the game," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. "It’s really good to have him." -------------------------- -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
