Charts, Gaps, and the future!

Admittedly, this isn't all that different in content from that post thorfio recently posted but I like to visually organize my thoughts so I thought I would throw up some tables.

So these are the players that will definitely be in the rotation next season. I don't want to get into the Batum debate here, but the league-wide consensus seems to be that we will match, and keep Nic so I have him in this table.

Position

PG

SG

SF

PF

C

Starter

Nicolas Batum

LaMarcus Aldridge

Reserve

Wesley Matthews

Luke Babbitt

Other

Nolan Smith

Elliott Williams

Kurt Thomas

Now after watching the last handful of Blazers games, I would love to see us reward JJ Hickson for being the opposite of most new additions to the Blazers. He as actually appeared MORE motivated and MORE ready to make a contribution to this team than he has elsewhere. What a concept. I also think we gotta take a flier on keeping Jonny Flynn. His numbers haven't been eye popping this week but he looks comfortable running the offense and seems like an ideal backup point who can play 15 mpg. That makes the table look like this:

Position

PG

SG

SF

PF

C

Starter

Nicolas Batum

LaMarcus Aldridge

Reserve

Jonny Flynn

Wesley Matthews

Luke Babbitt

JJ Hickson

Other

Nolan Smith

Elliott Williams

At this point the goal of our new GM or Chad Buchanan is to fill these holes. We have two glaring spots open at center, and we need a real wing scorer and a point guard in the starting lineup. I am a big advocate of Nic Batum but he should be a third-option scorer in this league.

So, hole in the chart by hole in the chart here we go:

Starting PG:

The Blazers would be moving backwards to get another stop-gap point guard or a combo guard that can't run the team. So here's a look at true points available in free agency, the draft, and trades. (Trades are obviously speculative)

Free agents:

Steve Nash, Aaron Brooks, Goran Dragic

Draft:

Kendall Marshall

Trade:

Brandon Jennings?

Wing Scorers:

The Blazers have a glaring need for a reliable wing scorer to be second fiddle to LMA. SInce Batum can play the 2, this could be a shooting guard or small forward. Here's some guys that might be available:

Free Agents:

Eric Gordon (injuries, though?), OJ Mayo, Ray Allen, Lou Williams

Draft:

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Austin Rivers, Bradley Beal, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Lamb

Trade: (Again, totally speculative)

JJ Reddick?

Centers:

We really have no one on the roster for next season to be a rotation center. We have could possibly have Joel Freeland coming over, so I'll put him in the free-agent list. Keep in mind we need a backup AND a starter.

Free Agents:

Joel Freeland, Spencer Hawes, Brook Lopez, Chris Kaman, Robin Lopez, Omer Asik

Draft:

Andre Drummond, Jared Sullinger, Tyler Zeller, Meyers Leonard.

Trade:

Not really seeing anything here where we could get any value

A couple tables I like:
